Volvo’s First Steps into the Electrical World
“Recharge, reduce, rethink.”
That is Volvo Cars’ new motto.
As 2020 is just around the corner, it is no doubt the winds of change in the automotive industry are blowing in one direction: reduce tailpipe emissions.
Volvo Cars are committed to electrify our entire line-up. By 2025, Volvo expect half of our global sales to be fully electric cars, while the rest will consist of hybrids. On October 16, 2019, Volvo launched the first fully electric car: the XC40 Recharge.
“We have said this several times before: for Volvo Cars, the future is electric,” says CEO Håkan Samuelsson.
“Today we take a major new step in that direction with the launch of our fully electric XC40 and the Recharge car line.”
The XC40 Recharge is the perfect car to spearhead the Recharge transition. It is everything that defines a Volvo in terms of safety, design and infotainment, but with the addition of an all-electric, all-wheel-drive powertrain. It offers a range of over 400 km on a single charge under the WLTP drive cycle, and power output of 408hp. The battery charges to 80 % of its capacity in just 40 minutes on a fast-charger.
